Hi, I searched the AW13 owners thread and didn't find much related to my issue. So I have my 13 R2 for about two months now, and it displays coil whine symptoms only when plugged in. The noise comes from underneath the middle to right hand side of the keyboard, but no noise from the PSU itself. In terms of loudness it is really only audible in a quiet room, but annoying nonetheless. Do any other 13 R2 owners here have the same problem? I've read a new PSU may solve the problem and disabling cpu “ C- states” in the BIOS is another potential fix which I haven't tried yet. Any other experiences here?

Don't think you can disable c-states in the bios. It could be a psu issue. Is it under warranty? If so just call them and pray you get a good phone tech. If not start with psu,
If that doesn't fix it on to the system board. Are you overclocking in any way?

Thanks for the reply...yes still have 10 months warranty left and no not overclocking. Will try for a PSU replacement first and see how that goes.

It's not really coil whine (you can verify this by looking at the fans' speed. They'll be 0 RPM, and coil whine is associated with fans). It's actually a static noise. I've even heard it travel on the right side of the laptop. It's pretty weird.
That said, checking the PSU and power source (where to plug it) may be a good idea, as mentioned earlier.

High pitched coil whine are most of the time inductors near the vrms of the cpu or gpu under full load. Fan coil whine is pulse modulation sound. But coil whine also can have a more low pitched electric noise. Most high performance machines have at least some electronic noise because of the electronic vibrations in the inductors itself.

    Edit: removed some errors.

Do you have counterstrike 1.6, css, csgo?

To eliminate coil whine, disable fps limiter on main menu and let the computer run 1000fps for 9-12 hours. That killed the coil whine on my titan x and 970 g1.

Ah, so coil whine isn't limited to fans. Good to know.
However, this didn't happen with the 13 R1 as far as I know (or at least, for it to be noticeable), so for it to appear in the 13 R2 is strange.

Try the 1000fps overnight method, might work.

There is some variance. Not all parts are exactly the same. When the coils insideof an inductor have more space. They can resonate more freely. Its not an error though just natural electromagentism which can only be minimised but not eliminates. Some modders dip those indictors with wax to stop the vibrating for example. Coils in a 8 shape instead of 0 shape help too but they lose efficiency because of this.
