My AW 15 R2 developed this annoying squeaky left CTRL (come to think of it, something wasn't right with that key from the outset). Is there anything worth trying before contacting Dell support and going through the pain of full keyboard replacement?

Sure, easy enough to fix yourself. But if you have at-home support then use that.

To diy; wedge small screwdriver or knife underneath either side of the key and pop off the key cap (carefully). Apply some vaseline or other type of grease to the scissor hinges and push the cap back on.
