    Hey guys,
I have the Alienware 17r2 with 4720HQ and I have a terrible throttling problem for months. The games were unplayable because in some games my CPU frequency just drops down to 800-1100 MHz after a while however I have come up with a solution. I disabled "SpeedStep" via XTU, I set the max non turbo boost ratio to 26x and did an undervolt by 70 mV's, I also increased the max current to 90 A. After these I OC'ed my 980m by 90/200 and the machine keeps its clocks now. This isn't a perfect solution for throttling however if there is anyone out there who has to keep dealing with throttling, I wanted to let them know this. This is with A06/180W

Did you test it with a 240watt powersupply by now? Because that would maybe explain the problem.

I did, I tried A00 and A06 with 180 and 240W adapters. Tried undervolting, underclocking (to 3.1 GHz) etc. via Throttlestop and/or XTU. Nothing solves the problem.

why keep going with 180W and A06?
240W and A00 is the most favorable case for a 980m

I tried that and it didn't work out for me. If I will use 240W adapter then I'll still disable SpeedStep and set the frequency to 2600 MHz so there is no point of carrying the bulkier adapter around.

If your goal is to disable turbo boost and limit the max non turbo clock speed, why didn't you just lower "maximum processor state" in Advanced power settings??

I just realized that's an option too. Oh well, I achieved the goal anyways.
