hu guys,
im having trouble with the bios over clock after re paste reaching temps of 97 degrees
its fine with performance mode disabled.
so im just wondering if there is any guides to safely get the most out of it with out it being too hot for long periods of time, ive heard setting it to level 3 and an undervault can manage this but im unable to find a guide.
any help would be much appreciated to help me get the most out of my 1080
thank you

Using Alienware's included OC profiles is pretty typical to see high temps. Your better off controlling it yourself and not using the preset OC profiles. Use the custom settings or Throttle stop or something along those lines and it probably won't be as bad. Also if your planning on pushing into those OC settings you will probably need to look at LM and really make sure you have a good fitting heatsink as they don't tend to OC that high without overheating unless you take a lot of extra steps to keep the temps down.
Also when your OCing that high undervolting may not be the best as your pulling voltage out of the CPU when it's trying to grab more. I am not an OC expert by any means so someone else can help more here but I would think undervolting at those OC levels would be a bad thing.Vasudev likes this. -
Thanks for the reply. What is throttle stop? And do you know any recommended custom settings to try? -

I think it’s blatantly obvious you did a crap repaste. If your temperatures are higher now than with the stock paste that can only mean your repaste was junk.
There’s tons of guides on how to do this including one massive thread for your model.

My apologies for not making it clear. My temps are a lot better than they was before the repaste with cpu performance mode off it’s just when I enable performance mode it gets very hot

Is it getting hotter than it was before? What paste did you use? Also - did you replace the pads as well?
