Just got two models- one with the 1080p, one with the 4K.

The 4K seems to have really bad shimmer/screendoor/moire effect going on. This is not a signal issue, I'm talking about the "material" of the screen itself- you can see a blackish moire pattern everywhere you look.

    Confirm?

This is the technology that enables the touch itself. I have seen it on low end tablets and several touch screen laptops. It drove me nuts so I opted for the 1080p screen. That is one of the listed downsides of the 4k screen. Some people dont even notice it. Other people cant stand it. There is no way around it.

Only time I saw a slight moire effect is while standing up in front / face directly over keyboard, looking from a certain angle. Otherwise, it's not perceivable for me (and went unnoticed until now).

Look at the white background of these forums on a 4K screen side by side next to a 1080p screen or really any other laptop screen and you will see it. It looks like gritty microdots. It is the capacitive layer of the screen that has the visible texture. It is present even on iphones and androids but it is much more difficult to see. Even in certain angles of sun light you can see a grid pattern. On computer LCDs that have touch features unless its high end it becomes more visible. Actually I have only seen one that was as clear as say a Galaxy phone or an Iphone. Its just the nature of the screen.

Yup, microdots are there too. My eyes don't resolve them once a few inches away (again, my head doesn't hover over the keyboard at all), so that's not a problem. When I'm that close, what drives me nuts instead, is the amount of dust I notice...

I see these dots, which look almost like pixel grids on an AW15 1080p Samsung panel. Is this normal?

The effects are particularly strong on a darker background such as the dark grey that Spotify uses. However, it doesn't seem to be on every solid background; the solid orange colors of the "Post Reply" button here doesn't seem to have it.

Is this something worth calling AW support about? Would a tech be able to come to my home and swap out the LCD?
