    Hello!
I have an Alienware 17 r2 (980m/4720HQ) and since I was able to get rid of the stupid CPU throttling issue, I am now leaning towards overclocking the hardware. I still have the 180 W brick so I realize that I need more power to do overclocking. I am thinking of getting a 330W adapter but I am not sure if the adapter is going to work with my system. Do you think if I get the 330W adapter, can I just connect it to the system and expect everything to be normal?

    Thanks!

There were some reports that the 330 yielded better performance over the 240w adapter so if you already have 180w I'd definitely go for the 330 over 240.

    I agree...opt for the 330W.

Officially, you should stick to the 240W adapter. However, I've seen people with the 330W adapter and absolutely no issues. If you plan to overclock the machine, make sure you check the temps constantly and don't take it beyond safe voltages.

Thank you for the confirmation. Is there any guide on overclocking so that I don't cross beyond the safe voltages? I mean, I have some minor experience on overclocking however I might want to try to get even more performance in the future so that I may increase the voltage a bit. In other words, I am asking you what the safe voltages are.

12.5mv is at least safe. Asic score on graphics can range the voltage with up to 12mV(Low Asic vs high Asic score on graphics).

overlock without increasing the voltage, is my best advice. and make a re-paste with ic diamond, TG kryonautic, liquid ultra or TG conductonaut
