more funny is the fact that your laptop is thicker, but still lighter than my AW 17 :( i don't know if you chassis is fully made out of plastic, but even though to the naked eye it's a beefy beast with lots of copper for cooling !!

Yea it’s a trade off I will have to accept. One of the most annoying things for me with the touch screen in the oled is that street fighter v always cuts off because of of a conflict with the touch screen. I dunno how. I tried the fix and the game stopped crashing. But windows does too many updates and it resets what you did. So you wait in a lobby or in a match game crashes.
That’s not just an aw13 problem. It’s a touchscreen issue.
I quite like the Arous/gigabyte. I’ve only owned a p34w. It was a really nice machine. The only thing I disliked was lightbleed if you was unlucky with the unit and the touchpad would leave oil marks from minor heavy use. But a lot of laptops do.
Only Alienware this gen is doing a good job there. But I have seen others with the Alienware with a worn touchpad. So I can only assume they are using it physically more than me. Or they are not cleaning their hands from eating.

There are a lot of Clevo barebones out there and the bigger ones have separeted heatsinks for both the CPU and GPU. Which is beneficial for the fitting but also cooling in those cases because the heatsinks in those machines are quite big. Different class machine, desktop replacement but powerful. Pretty much you gave up some portability for the ultimate performance.

Alienware in NL is quite cheap. All comparable options to my AW15R3 with the 7700HQ when I checked where 300 to 500 euro's more expensive. I paid 1700 for it by the way. But add 200 for SSD and 8gb extra memory.

This is what the GS costs in NL at this time by the way. Its not that cheap as you see especially for the GPU that comes with it https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/714021/msi-gs73vr-7rf-217be-(stealth-pro).html

The Aorus and Asus are depending on the time between 2500 and 3000 euro's so very comparable with the 17inch 1080gtx versions.

Did your battery die out in mere months? Owned 3 P34W v3 units and all had issues. Uploaed some videos about it in the P34W v3 owners topic at that time. Luckily Amazon refunded me everytime ever after 3 months.

Try Windows update hide tool https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...t-a-driver-update-from-reinstalling-in-window

I have to disable various updates as well, it can mess your system up unfortunately.

Fully made of plastic, but the cover of the laptop is some kind of matte material who's a pain because it scratch easily, that's the major downside.

And yeah, after hours long session of BF1 in MP, gpu max at 69 because of the limit I set in Asus Tweak, but the GPU still push more than 2k on core and something like 10600 on memory.

Cpu will sometime have PEAK at 80-82 but it's mostly in the low 70s with the laptop flat on my desk, I'm receiving my Havit cooling pad today so the temps should be even lower!

You're right, but you have to admit that the R3 is by no mean a light laptop that you can carry around much more than the one I have. In my laptop bag, they both felt the same, except the for the power brick of the Eurocom which is a huge 330w one.

I think that being disapointed by the cooling of the 15R3 is justified, seeing how big the laptop is.

However, for someone who has time on his hands and don't mind getting his hands dirty with liquid metal, I would still recommend it, even if the tripod system (I have the CCI or CC1 or Something like that?) is subpar.

Its not light indeed, but it is by far the most sturdy laptop I have ever used in the gaming space. Thats the main reason why I bought it. If I spend close to 2000 euro I want to be damn sure it feels like 2000 euro and most of the expensive gaming laptops feel no different than 800 euro budget laptops even if they perform wondefully. My AW stays cool luckily, if it wouldnt I would try to fix it. If it stays like that I would have returned it.

But even though it is heavy it fits quite easily in a fairly slim backpack. The DTR's not so much. They dont even fit in my cabin case that is the max allowed size to take with me on an airplane and I never want to put a laptop in my main suitcase which gets bumped on an airport.

I didn’t have any battery issues. It lasted longer than my aw13. Was very happy with it besides the minor cosmetic wear and tear issues.

I’ll bear the window prevent driver in the future. For now just waiting for the aw15 to arrive. If I like it then I won’t need to worry about it till a future upgrade includes touch.
But I’ll check it out on the 15. I don’t like auto updates anyway. Something I always disabled on win7

You can disable automatic updating in the registry But I prefer more control. It can be done with Win10 pro. Still have to buy a key or something online for cheap.

I didn’t realise. It is cheap, Around £8. So I’ll see what other benefits are they for the everyday user. But it could be enough in its own right just for that.

Looks like Dell is starting to add the CTO versions of this. It appears that the starting price for the 15 is $1449, and $1599 for the 17. The cost of upgrading to the i9 is $600, which seems pretty high to me, so it better have a great cooling system this time around.

Also, bestbuy.com has a pre-order up for a 17R5 that has 8750H / GTX 1070 / 1080p / 256GB SSD for $1899. Seems like a good value for what you get, especially if they put it on sale in the coming months.

Up till now the only news they had where buzzwords like "Vapor Chamber Cooling" and ''Cryo-Tech v2.0" which features "Thinner Fanblades on the CPU which allows it to be 10 percent faster than before ".
we've seen a picture with a 8950 running at 3.4 ghz with 90 watts running through the CPU. if it already struggles to hit 4.3 ghz and lowers it speeds back to 3.4, it shows that the new line up will become a ****show again.

Ofcoarse these machines will probably run fine, but there is no point in ordering a BGA laptop that needs a fixing from the factory, when LGA comes rarely with problems like these. These laptops where never intended to be light and thin (for that we have ultrabooks) so it elliminates the counter argument of the AW being lighter and thinner than most LGA laptops (and BGA laptops comes free with throttling due it being slimmer :( lol ) i LOVED AW before dell r*ped them without lube :( the Alienware 17 R5 was the last real AW laptop for me :(

Its mainly the resellers saving lga machines and prema. Because without it wouldnt run well. Clevo should be thankful to shops like hidevolution, eurocom etc.

altough you're right, most LGA laptops come without problems. for example the Origin EON17-X came and haven't had a single problem, and is only available through originpc. there are alot of brands that exactly what you say get a tuning from a third party reseller, but there are plenty that do not come near a reseller and still have great thermals !

Indeed. Tuning an LGA machine can be just as hard as a BGA machine. Luckily HID evolution will carry the 15r4 and 17r5 and would be able to do the tweaking if needed.

    Is it worth waiting?
By the time they release volta cards it will probably be the end of the year.
I'm just about to bite the bullet and buy an i9 15r4 with 1070.
I was going to wait but don't think they will upgrade the gpu... Especially since a year or so ago they were sticking in 1050ti s

    100% utterly wrong.
BGA chips are silicon that FAILED BINNING FOR LGA processors from the wafer! So they are ALL LOWER QUALITY silicon. They run hotter and need +1 speed bin to match LGA processors. Ask brother @Papusan.

All silicon die is picked from the same waffer. If it handles the bining for use as i7 cpu's, but can not maintain base clock frequency within Intel's specific TDP, it will be classified aka binned for i7 chips with lower TDP. The worse it is the longer down the chain it will be used. If it can't be used for 8800Hq chips it will be branded as Mobile Core i7-8750Hq. Same if it's 6th, 7th and now 8th gen Core i7 processors.

To this day, I have never seen a Mobile unlocked BGA delivering the same Cinebench R15 (or for that matter other Cpu benchmarks) bench scores vs. clock speed used. Whatever I put 4.2 or each step up to 4.9GHz. Everything above 49x is not topic. They ain't binned for this clocks.

Thats fully the case, the yields improve during the cycle and all is based on the sillicon lottery. And that wasnt even my point. My point is that bga or lga isnot automatically a quality or speed indication. They can make a soldered 8700k no sweat and they can make a 7820hk for a sicket. The mounting method in these cases has no tangible different for the chips used.
