could everyone post and compare their idle temps vs load cpu temps. I'm concerned I'm running hot but honestly it could be nothing.

I'm I'm California. Outside temps average around 20 degrees Celsius and I keep the house about that temp inside as well.

I have been idling 50-65 degrees Celsius. In games (mass effect, wow, batman, etc) I normally run 75-78 degrees Celsius with an occasional rise to 84-85 degrees.

I have no idea what my gpu temps are because MSI afterburner doesn't work and hwinfo doesn't show it.

I've tested the fans and they work but they don't seem to ever be pushing at full blast.

Thoughts. Opinions. Suggestions. Comparisons. Bring it on.

I just got my new Alienware 15, the cpu temps at idle is around 60 degress celcius. I think this is abnormal. Anyone care to help? I might consider calling for tech support if this persists.

    Bump!

Would really appreciate more feedback and temps to see what everyone else is experiencing.

40-50 idle, 63-68 under benchmark load, highest 70

    Edit:
Room temperature here is around 18-20 degrees Celsius.

Wow. Much lower. Hmmm. Using a cooling pad or any special setup to improve things? Did you re-paste? Not even sure if that's possible with the soldered parts.

Kept it on top of a desk, nothing special. No cooling pads, no repasting, nothing.

My room temp is around 25 degrees. I noticed after applying the A02 bios update my temp rose to around 55-60 degrees on idle. I flashed it back to A00 and the temps are better hovering around 50. Im suspecting the bios being the culprit. Even my 6 year old m17x r1 has better idle temps.

After some testing confirmed that the A02 bios raised my temps by a good 5-7 degrees. Will stick with the A00 for now.

As we've tried to explain dozens of times, Alienware uses a pretty cheap thermal compound. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same stuff Dell uses on Inspiron and XPS laptops.

Do your system and yourself a favor and go purchase some ICDiamond. Arctic Silver is cheaper because it's inferior. CPU's should idle around 45-50C and never reach above 90C (maybe 95C) while gaming. (Prime95 and other benchmarks present unrealistic usage and debatably overstress hardware.)

Even with the default thermal paste, my load temps were the following:

    3DMARK
    CPU: 77
    GPU: 63

    IDLE
    CPU: 54

    Diablo 3
    CPU: 76
    GPU: 63

    XTU Stress Test
    CPU: 70

This was with the default BIOS. Ambient temp around 21C.

Those temps do look a little high. I recommend you to repaste the system with some high quality paste for it to lower a bit. Also, controlling the fans manually could help or even a cooling pad.

How can I control the fans manually? I think the cpu and gpu can handle 85+c easely, but the fans spins up too fast and cools them down to 65+c. In my eyes, its to much noise.
I also dislike that they spin up when I'm browsning the internet.

You can use MSIAfterburner or HWInfo.

Thank you. But seems to me I cant get the FAN tab in MSI afterburner to pop up. Just General, Monotoring, Profiles and User Interface. Am I missing something?

Yea neither of those is working. Any manual way to control fan? Or a compatible program?

Cooling pad had no effect for me fyi. Tried a couple of other things like positions and external fan that helped.

And porras you would recommend people re-paste their own cpu?

For newbies like me maybe i end up destroying my machine if i try to repaste. I'm trying a cooling pad for now.

I doubt the cooling pad will have much effect, unless you had the laptop on a soft surface. The laptop base is sufficiently elevated off the surface, and there are enough vents that I don't see a cooling pad helping much.

Dam it. I rly need to control them. Gaming with a 330w psu gives some great results, but the noise! I should easely turn the rpm on the fans a bit down, and let the cpu/gpu sweat a little, no problem!

Do you guys always have your system on high performance mode on power settings even when not gaming?

    Ambient Room Temp: 21C

    CPU Idle: 4 7C
    CPU While Gaming: _____

GPU 980M Temp While Gaming: 60C

Still stock. Haven't re-pasted yet. Laptop is just sitting on an elevated laptop stand.

(Numbers according to AlienAdrenaline. The GPU Temp line doesn't go above 60 mark. Very consistent.)

Those temps are COOL and nothing to be at all concerned with. Mine is running about the same, 49-55 min and 78-80 max for CPU.

My 2013, 18 inch Alienware was a heat MONSTER! It would run up in the 90s under load. I repasted it with ICDiamond and it helped maybe a few degrees, but not worth all the hassle.

So when I saw these temps under load, I was very impressed.
