Interesting thing on my new machine. 17 R3 (2015).

If I am on a dark web page and I switch windows to a white background, the screen looks very dim and then brightens. I have all adaptive settings off. Anyone ever experienced that? Is there a reason for it? I do have the 4k screen.1

Yea, it is very strange. I have it going straight off the Nvidia card as well. Go to a dark background and enter some text or something. Leave it for about 20 seconds and then switch to a white background page. Like a tabbed page.

I have seen this on the normal screen, but not the 4k screen. I have been through the power settings many times. I don't see anything else to turn off. However, it does act just like a cell phone that is adjusting brightness. Except, not from outside lighting sources, from page source.

I am theorizing it is either power related (lack of, with 180w adapter) or it is in the bios.

SOLVED. Purchased an Alienware 18, 330W Adapter. It was delivered today and I have tried the same scenario and there is no change.

If I didn't state it before, it is easily re-created with the 180W Adapter. Go to Alienware.com and stay on any of the black web pages for about 30 seconds. Have another tab up with this forum on it. After being on the Alienware.com page for 30 seconds, switch to the tab with this forum on it. Now on the 4k screen like mine, it will be dim after changing tabs and then start to brighten up.

After changing the adapter, no more problem. Alienware says only the 980m needs the adapter? NO WAY.
