My 17 R3 4k computer has a plastic creak in the palm rest after I remove my left hand from the home row of the keyboard. Does anyone else have this sound? Sometimes it happens right when I remove my hand, other times is delayed for 30 seconds or so.

I'm contemplating calling support or returning the computer. I bought the computer from the Microsoft Store.

Sounds like it may just be a loose screw that's not fully tightened.

Tell me exactly where you hear the creak? I know the underneath of that machine very well.

Thank you both for your reply.

I tried tightening all the palm rest screws both along the outside and inside under the cover. I don't want to over tighten and strip the screw or break the anchor that it's screwing into.

The creak is coming from the left corner of the laptop closest to me that my arm rests over when I'm reaching the keyboard.

There is very slight movement between the palm rest and the body of the laptop.

I suspect something isnt perfectly assembled inside. For example the battery isnt latched perfectly inside or speaker assembly.

The place you are speaking of is not controlled by screws. Tightening will have no effect whatsoever. The palmrest is attached by clips. Outside of some type of dielectric grease that would lube it a bit, I don't see you fixing that. The grease is a last ditch effort, I wouldn't do that, just an idea.

If it is bothersome, might want to return it if you have that option. I haven't had the best of luck in my retail purchases, getting used ones as new, etc. So......

If it is perfect and has a slight creak, I might live with it. You could always request a new palmrest assembly and install it. That would probably take care of the problem under warranty.

That's exactly what I would do. I guess it's all down to what you think of staying with it or not.

The creaking has stopped. I tried tightening the screws again with slightly more force and that seems to have fixed the issue.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
