Was planning on grabbing either on the dell outlet website since its not that expensive. Both only come with a 6700hq cpu though but was wondering which screen is better the 1440p 120hz panel on the 17r4 or the 1080p 120hz panel on the 15 r3? Also can it go any higher than 120hz? both also come with a 1070 gpu. I am planning also on doing a repaste with CLU or ic diamond. Heard that thermal pads on these new machines are bad is that true? Thanks!

Pretty much comes down to do you want higher fps or do you want a higher resolution. Take a look at some benches for the 1070 and see what the games your playing are getting. I dont know about overclocking them tho. I own the 1440p screen but ive never tried since ive never needed too.

The thermal pads arent garbage but you can do better. If your doing a repaste you might as well change out the pads while your in there.

CPU wise the 6700hq will get the job done, but the HK's will give you better future proofing and performance. Especially if you plan on using the graphics amplifier at some point.

I personally would grab the 1080p panel. You will get much better frames and take full advantage of the 1070. Plus the gpu will be more future proof since your not pushing the higher res. While the 1070 is fine at 1440p now its kind of at its limit. I can see you dropping under the 60fps mark in the near future when more demanding games come out. If you planning on only keeping it for a few years its not a huge deal, but any longer than that you will probably be wishing you grabbed the 1080 screen.

Be wary of the outlet machines. It's just as much of a gamble. Here is mine out of the box. [IMG]

And here is mine after iunlock's service. Bear in mind that this is with an oc to 3.6ghz. [IMG]

Don't forget that there are 4 LHz members you can send the laptop in for a liquid metal service + optional repad service.

I was leaning more on the 15 r3 since i already have a clevo 770dm with a 6700k. hopefully egpus will be available later this year to pair up with this beast. I am getting that itch again because them new alienwares look kinda sexy.

I already bought 2 alienware 13 r2s in the outlet and one of them had bad ram in it and other one did not want to boot up the next day. had them repaired though and sold them asap! Hope this is not the case for these new machines. tbh i was leaning for the msi but its so hard to get them since i find them really unattractive compared to the new alienwares.
