So I received a refurbished 15r2 from Dell today and while for the most part it looks/runs great, having a problem with a slightly important component to a laptop....the battery.

The battery was 0% out of the box and when I plug the AC adapter in Windows tells me that it is plugged in and charging....but it's not. It just stays at 0% and never goes up.

Any possible solution to this beyond having to deal with the travesty that is Dell customer service?

What happens when you take it off AC?
It could be that your battery is feeding the wrong charge levels to the computer, which means that the controller is faulty.

You can try a 'reset' by disabling all hibernate/sleep on low battery settings and just wait for it to shut off from low battery.
Once it shuts off, plug it in and leave it charging overnight. Check in the morning whether the charge levels are showing correctly.

If not then you'll have to call Dell service.

Nothing happens; I can't even turn it on unless it's plugged in.

If you take it off AC while it's on, does it shut off immediately? Try charging it while it's off for a whole night.

If it still doesn't work you got a dud battery.

Since this is a refurbished system, is there any chance that the battery was not properly put back in the system when it was being refurbished?

remove the first panel and check if the battery cable is correct in place.
later enter in BIOS and check if your AC adapter is recognized

Send it back! You paid for a " Working" Laptop, not one you have to fix.
