Did a clean install of windows , clean install of drivers, no sound, eSPA speakers didn't work either this mean my new used 15 r4 has a bum motherboard or speakers and wasn't such a good deal after all?

thanks for any insight or anyone who has had this problem

Did you recently do any work on it?

I forget which one, but there is a screw on the 15 R4 (Might have been 15 R3, so i could be totally wrong here) that if you torq it down to hard, it will straight up disable your sound. iirc its one that is physically near the headphone jack. been awhile since i read that comment though, but this is the best i go.

I have opened these models more than 20 times by now but i cant imagine in any way how that would be possible. Thre are only 4 motherboard screws and not near the jack. The rest is locked into place by the ribcage.

The 15r3 and r4 are identical by the way.

There was another user here who had the same issue but i dont know how and or if he solces it. But the first think i would check if the speaker cables itself arent pinched between the batter and chassis and cause a short.
