    hi all,
i was wondering if any one can tell me what the cpu performance mode enabled from the bios menu will do?
i have the I7 6700hq all i have gathered is that the fans are pretty much always on even when idle.
    Thanks

CPU Performance will enable Overclocking on HK cpus and fan profile will be aggressive than stock ones.

But what does it do on the hq models? It was my understanding that they wasn’t overclockable

Simply increases the TDP limit to 92W with no overclocking at all on HQ models. You can hear the fans when the temps crosses 60C.

    I wondered this as well.

As you have two options Performance mode and something else.

Performance mode simply increased my fans to spinning all the time. Rather than being almost silent.

The other one Extremme mode I think simply put my fans on max permanently.

Almost right, you have two options:

    CPU Performance Mode
    • More specifically it raises the PL1 and PL2 of the HQ processor so the processor will not throttle due to power limits when running at full load. If you're having trouble keeping your HQ processor at it's max Turbo boost clock frequency and your maximum core temperatures are less than 96C, this is almost certainly the reason
    Fan Performance Mode
    • Useful only for Benchmarking although if you have HWINFO this is not needed as you can set the fans to maximum RPM from within this also (and set it back to normal without having to go into BIOS)

HQ CPUs are locked so they rarely touch 60W on full load.
6700HQ hardly ever touches the rated TDP of 35W on full load at 3.1GHz for sustained loads like AIDA64.
I stopped benchmarking and switched to gaming for real world testing.

Agree, Im Yet to Hit even 45W on max load with stock voltages, with -175MV it was hovering around 25W-30W max

I got some problem with CPU Performance mode after I've flashed last BIOS or updated windows to fall creators update. Now in CPU Performance mode my fans in idle are staying at 0 RPM, just when temperature goes more than 55-60 degrees they switch on and start working at 1800 CPU and 2100-2000 GPU. Of course if temperature goes more than 60 (around 65) fans starting at high RPM. But in idle... 0 RPM. Also dell published new version of Command Center, which they removed from the site in the same day when they launched it. Now I downgraded to 1.1.19 BIOS, but the same thing - 0 RPM in idle. Someone got same problem?
