So I just sold my 15 r1 for around 1500usd. I sold it cause it throttled a lot I had to use hwinfo to create my own fan profile but in return i experienced latency issues or random spikes. Long story short i am in the market for a new laptop and eyeing the 17r3 as its cheap compared to the asus and msi counter parts.
Also imo the warranty service is second to none.

Concerns i have before buying one:
1)how are the temps compared to the 15 models?
    2) is there away to overclock the laptop display above the stock 60hz?
    3) is there away to connect a gsync monitor to it and utilize the higher refresh rate it offers?
    4) aside from calling the hotline and purchasing via dell outlet, what other things should i do/are there other things i could do to get it at a cheaper price?
Looking at prices over at ebay and all of them are refurbished(dont really mind if its used as long as it has a 1yr warranty)
    1769usd for a 980m +6820+1080p+8gb ram+1tb hdd
    And
1900+usd for the exact same model + 4kuhd screen.

The temps on my 17" are excellent. It holds steady on 4k gaming at ~60C....

Not sure about the display overclock, but I can tell you for sure that the 4k screen at 60Hz is amazing....never did I feel like I needed more Hz while gaming or watching videos...

Just wheel and deal with them and know exactly what you want to pay for it before contacting them. If you get a dummy on the line, just call back until you can speak to someone who is competent

The temps should be exactly the same. In fact the 17inch models are identical to the 15inch models. They use the same motherboards etc. But the cooling has extended heatpipes instead but the same size heatsinks.

But it i not possible to get a gsync monitor in there or make it work. Gsync cannot work on optimus equipped systems

I heard good things about the panel but i dont think i could play games on 4k and get 60fps. 60celsius on both cpu and gpu? Did you do a repaste? My aw15 peaked at 95c lol and thats just playing rocketleague and dota2

In the past it was possible but maybe newer laptops do need a gsync module.

What model do you own? So its not true that temps on the 17 are better than the 15? The 15 i owned had very bad fan tables. Wantes to do a repaste but it was a pita to do.

I have the R1 and my temps with the A06 bios never surpassed the 85c and with an undervolt It never went above 75c. The laptop had a repaste too which only delayed the time that the fans will kick in after the cpu reaches 65c.

The R2 version of both the 15 and 17 have a bit lower temps. The thin gis that the current Alienwares are tuned for low fan noise.
