I'm looking for a new laptop. I already have the Graphics Amplifier with a GTX 970.

I usually play RPG and FPS games. I don't do video editing, 3D rendering or anything of the like. This is primarily a gaming laptop for me.

Is the 13 R2 CPU (6500U) going to be any noticeable in everyday use when compared to the 6700HQ? And then will it be noticeable in gaming?

Yes. If u want this for gaming, choose the 15 with Quad core. It is 100% noticeable in gaming, if u do office stuff u will feel no difference

The dual core CPU will become a big bottleneck soon. All new videogames are programmed for multicore use similar to the console versions which have 8 available cores to run their games on. I can only recommend the Core I7 quad core cpu's now for future proofing.

Is it worth upgrading from the AW 15 R1 to the AW 15 R2?

definitely a big now. The performance gains of skylake are neglible. But you lose the better FHD screen.
