im going to but a new Alienware 15 r3 to replace my r2 and was wonder is there a major difference between the 1060 and 1070?
Is I have a set budget so I can get the same spec as I want with a 1070 but refurbished of for a little cheaper from the shop brand new with the 1060.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The 1070 is quite a bit faster and ensures a longer run regarding performance. The 1060 is just a little bit faster than a 980GTX which is already more than 2 years old.

If you intend to keep the laptop for more than 2-3 years for gaming, I would go for the 1070 without hesitation.

That's the thing I get a new one every two years.

The 1070 is about a 50% performance increase.

I usually go by cores * clockrate. So the 1060 has 1280 cores * 1670 mhz = 2,137,600. the 1070 has 2048 cores * 1645 = 3,368,960. So yeah thats pretty close to 50% performance increase. I'd go with the refurbished if it comes with dells 2 year premium warranty like the other ones I saw on the dell outlet did.

thanks for you help i went for the 1070 and even though its refurbished you cant tell the difference and i come with dell standard warranty.
it was well worth the buy as an upgrade from my r2 and my temps are great at the moment so no need to mess about repasting just yet

I just got a 1070 as well and really like it. I think you made the right decision.
