Good thing I checked this yesterday...1.06. heard 1.08 causes high temps so I never upgraded it.

Idk if I would consider it actually "causing" high temps, unless anyone's laptop reaches dangerously high temps due to the BIOS, I believe it just has a different fan curve. Likely much less aggressive. I have been using HWinfo and made my own curve, because the default is just obnoxious and loud at anything above 50C.
For example, the default fan curve would give me temps like this during XTU + Heaven - cpu: 74, 71, 67, 67 gpu: 58, which is obnoxious and loud. But using my own fan curve I would get reasonable noise at higher temps, but it would be extremely quiet between the temps of 30-65C.temps would be about 75C for CPU and 72C for GPU, but it would be MUCH quieter than the stock curve like I was saying. But be careful when messing with the fans with HWinfo, its finicky when using it to control the AW fans. But as a note, I am pretty sure the default fan curve hits around 3100RPM (3000 doesn't work) when the CPU/GPU hits 50C, that's just necessary.
Also careful to make sure it actually IS working and changing fan speeds, whether you're using Afterburner with the OSD or some other programs to monitor temps when in full screen. Heaven shows it right underneath all the other info in the top rightAman Krishna likes this. -
not sure if its just the fan curve though, after 1.0.8 I noticed my idle temps where around 5-6C higher from a cold boot, and consistently at idle and doing minimal work nothing intensive I see the CPU going all over the place, I'm using hwinfo to monitor the temps -

Edit: closed all programs and turned off AV, CPU usage was at 1% with a spike every so often to 3%. Package power was 6-6.5W (not sure if that's good or bad). But it seems fine for me as far as CPU usage and temps-wise. I am on the 7700HQ though, not sure which you are on and I think I have every single driver updated to its most recent, including BIOSLast edited: Apr 5, 2017 -

Yeah that's definitely happened as far as I know with the laptop. Are you sure it's not because the fans are pretty much turned off/are off up until 50C and the large multiplier increase increases voltage by a nice bit, since my CPU pretty much goes from 8x to 28x even from small tasks (probably has to do with power settings). But also opening a web page or something increases GPU power and voltage which increases the GPU temp, and they both are on the same heatsink so the Temps are pretty consistent when idle and under light load. But that's my opinion I don't really have enough info to confirm it, I never doubted the BIOS or drivers causing and extra heat haha

my BIOS version is 1.06.
also, i've noticed that sometimes, my fans goes loud, like processing a lot of stuff, even if im only watching a youtube video or surfing the web.....also noticed that my note is slower to load all the programs after boot and windows start, and sometimes (a few times) i get some LAGS while doing multiple tasks. Is this may be caused by BIOS or heat??
P.s: just bought my thermal paste from Gelid GC-Extreme. Hope it lower the temps. -
edit: maybe when i overclock my 6820hk after repaste, this will improve?

I'm pretty sure on whatever Bios I was before this, it was definitely not doing this so the only change I did was update the Bios -
Could you help me up on doing this? i mean, where can i download the 1.0.2 (because on dell there is only the 1.12)? Also, how do i install it? just execute while on windows or will i have to extract and boot via pen drive? Again, sorry for my newbie knowledge -
1.0.2
automatic install through dell own driver package

Not necessary, but is beneficial to doVasudev likes this. -
My paste is coming by april 10...im gonna repaste as you posted here + overclock to improve my performance. But as i said before, i dont know how to overclock and undervolt .
ohh, also going to roll back to 1.0.2 bios. -

+1.
Reduce temps will help in stabilizing your CPU boost clocks. Try a minimum range 20-75. If you undervolt higher, you might lose points in benchmarks but not in games. -
My replacement has idol temps of 50 degrees! Will removing those thermal pads help? Plan on re-pasting this weekend!

This is the first I have heard of removing them. I see on here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...5r3-disassembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/
They are listed as "less important" but not enough to remove them altogether. I also notice that the black stuff on Mobius 1's heat sink does not exist.
Mobius 1, can you please provide more info on this? If removing them is good why do you still have them on, I have heard of removing the ones from the cpu chokes before but not any of the others. Would like to know pros/cons. Also was there some benefit to removing the black stuff?Vasudev likes this. -
Yes, work with 7820HK, if you have HK chip use liquid metal for maximum overclocking benefit.
I would only repaste a unit that's working properly in the first place. That's up to you though.
The chokes are "less important" cause they are literally just copper coils inside a metal rectangle. No electronics inside, this can survive 150c+ and still act like normal for practically forever.Aman Krishna and Vasudev like this.
