It shouldn't be normal. Dell have improved the cooler part, but the pads still aren't a solid seal. It's a bad design for me. Use HWINFO64 to view temps on PCH

Yes, with XTU, but what did you modify with XTU? You just increased the colors to 44x?

I also use the graphic amplifier :)

This is my score for 4.4ghz...

This is the thing, I did the repast with Fujipoly 17 W/mk. After arming and reviewing as it was, note that in some places the heatsink did not fully support. After repaste, idle temperatures are 37c and the maximum is 75c (even peaks of 80c) after 15 minutes OCCT with room temp 27c.

My question is, with Fujipoly 11W/mk will it get better result? I do not want to replace everything and after that the result is worse (besides, i do not have more Fujipoly 17 W/mk in case the 11W/wk do not give better result).

What should I do? I accept suggestions... @iunlock you have experience, what do you say?

Since you have higher ambient temps look for Fujipoly w/ softer pads ( lesser W/mK) or arctic ones. It must be soft. Also check your fan profile too.

Done! I replace all the pads by Fujipoly 11. Now I am doing test and it improved a little. The bad news is that I ****ed one of the connectors on the killer wifi card ... I do not know if I have an arrangement.

BT is still working fine without antenna. I think I have to change the white wire and the antenna. Where can I get the cable?

    Wow.. Even better.
Nice, looks like you have a better overclock. I didn't do anything significant.. Only did cores and cache. If a little effect I think 4.6ghz is feasible.

I didn't bother replacing the thermal pads. I did mod the pch & apply thermal grease to contact areas Of already fitted thermal pads.

If you broke the black cable, then you must replace entire screen assembly as @iunlock said its a hassle to replace wires only.
If the connector of the card is stuck inside the cable port, use small needle to remove it and replace the card.

A Dell engineer replacing the board on the 6820hk damaged the connector cable for wifi - not sure which but needed the screen panel replacing.. It ain't as bad as you'd think. This is part of the problem taking them a part as parts are flimsy.

Why are they replacing the speakers.. Another issue? youll need the screen back panel at a guess. The wifi cards are pretty solid.. but if you take a look at it you should be able to see with the connector from the cable is still attached or not.

I hate the look of the MSI.. I'd take a clevo over it.. The Alienware is probably the best looking laptop out there with a lot of promise.. Its just a shame Dell are killing it.

It was a great opportunity.. Removing interchangeable cpu / gpu.. Limiting usb ports.. Allowing for overclocking with a standard Dell template which cannot support it.. A laptop with desktop amp/docking station is the future.. Or could be providing they don't really f it up

I do not touch the cache ratio ... I leave it in 36. If I set undervolt to -0,050 and core ratio 43x the score is 139x most of the time...

What would you recommend doing then? The heatsink falling off worries me now, thanks for that. :p

    BGABOOK! NO STAPH!
    Yeah I'd be pissed too.
my 7820HK is fully stable and AVX small FFT Prime stable at 4400 mhz (cache 41x) and 1.1v up to 91W (after I found out how to stop the laptop from shutting off due to MSI cancer firmware not allowing me to draw 91W from the CPU), but temps get too hot even for Liquid Metal Conductonaut with 8 thread AVX, so i have to stop the test in about 4 minutes. LLC AC/DC is at 125 in Bios. And fully prime small FFT (No AVX or FMA3) stable at 4.5 ghz @ 1.13v (cache 42x), but if I enable AVX with small FFT, a core gives a roundoff error after one pass, and I increase LLC a little bit to try to stabilize that core, the system just shuts off after like a minute. Increasing PS Current Threshold1, which stopped the shutdowns at 4.4 ghz with AVX, didn't work here (well, it shuts down in 1-2 minutes instead of 10 seconds at default), but whatever. I'm happy with 4.5 ghz being otherwise stable.

My chip is probably among the top end of BGA 7820hk.
MSI's cancer firmware would probably PL throttle 4.6 or 4.7 even without prime, or shut off the system. I think iunlock already found out 4.7 ghz is the absolute maximum you can go regardless of how good your chip is, because of cancer firmware.

I think its pretty much self explanatory. First two are fans and entire heatsink. Last two are your system specific board and a new panel with Tobii.
If you modded the heatsink, its better to keep the old heatsink and fan assembly if you wished.

I used the 17m/wk no difference. Someone suggested the 14m/wk fujipoly. The 17 where stiff and brittle after being heated up once.

Is there any reason I need to get fujipoly?
I want good quality... but I know there is Alphacool and Artic as well, which those seem to be cheaper + more + on Newegg.
Fuji is only on Amazon I see which is harder for me to buy from.

    Thanks!

Alpha cool 14m/wk is Fuji poly. I would get that. I am not the expert I have repaste and pad two 17r4 and both still have heat issues. My third replacement comes tomorrow and if it's no good out of the box I'm not even going to bother and just get a refund.

I was hitting mid 90s out of the box on CPU.

I'll go with Alpha Cool then. Thanks! 11wk is worse than 14wk?
Yup... they come hot cause it's "within spec". My 17R2 came like that, literally would just idle and it would hit 90s, so I games for a tiny tiny bit and it hit 95 and was like NOPE. Took it apart and just changed the thermal paste, and it hits 85C which is still to high for me haha.

    Hopefully your replacement is better.

Hmmm, I don't know about you guys but Artic pads are pretty good and resistant. It is very soft too. In fact, if your problem is heat sink fit, I would go generic chinese pads that are super soft.

The transfer is better the higher you go but from what I understand when I asked last week and the week before is the softer the better. This helps with unbalanced heatsink. So the 14 alpha oil is the best thermally because they are softer. There is a thread that even shows performance is better on the 14 then the 17
