You're pulling my leg right? Haha...

Just in case, that is after a repaste (Grizzly Conductonaut+Repad+Custom HS Mod+HS Fix)

Please tell me you're joking lol....it's clearly stated on the screen shot. There's no way stock paste would pull those numbers.

Haha :D nooooo i meant the pads, not the repaste!
In other words: what's the difference between pads height on 15/17?

I don't want to get on ur nerves :D I just ask because I want to repad and only saw the 17 pic in OP.

    @iunlock

I travel a lot and bring my laptop with backpack.

Isn't it dangerous if I repaste my laptop with Liquid Metal?
from what i've read liquid metal doesn't dissolve.

also about how long will the liquid metal lasts? and needed to repaste again?

It will last as long as you don't remove the heatsink. Basically the whole lifetime of the laptop.

All depends if the heatsink sits flush on the die.

Yes as mentioned, the most important thing is to have your HS sit flush with the CPU die. I travel 1-2 times a month, and my laptop always sits vertical in my briefcase bag. Heck, even my MBP is LM'ed and sits vertical as well haha. Never had an issue. Just make sure not to use too much and with the newer units, it should be flush enough to not be an issue.

Either the donkeys were too lazy to flash it to 1.0.8, which is ok btw as I've tested it more with some tweaks.... or 1.0.6 was kept on there on purpose due to the thermal throttling.

Hi all again, From my previous post and from what some folks had said regarding my temps after re-pasting and following iunlock's tutorial on how to do it ;)

When i added the (Grizzly Conductonaut it sent the Package Sensor off the scale and when i installed HWiNFO64 it picked up that the sensor was not working, but the GPU and CPU were fine. Anyway, I was happy with the Average Temps i was achieving and just how fast the temps came down when the fans came in at full spin.

After having a lovely conversation with captn.ko and his take on what temps should be ... o_O I decided to strip the lappy down again and redo with ArticSilver Paste. I was surprised at the results, the Package Sensor started working again and the temps were even better than before. I installed HWiNFO64 to try and replicate results as to what other people are using. I have never been one for posting on here before i started this little journey but anyways my results.. :)

Results from running 3D mark Time Spy with ArticSilver and another pic of the highest temps during the benchmark

    https://flic.kr/p/QmDQZv
    https://flic.kr/p/QijZxu

Then i did what iunlock did which was play a game for 30 odd minutes and using HWiNFO64 show my results (BF1 on ultra settings - see previous post for on screen settings)

This is stock CPU and GPU playing for 46 minutes
    https://flic.kr/p/QmDR6x

This is with the CPU in the Bios set to performance and Fans set to Enable and GPU as stock playing for 36 minutes. Please note i have the Alienware 17 r4 1070 with the i7 6700HQ chip.

    https://flic.kr/p/Q8EBBb

So there you go i hope this as helped anyone. I am going to keep this laptop as is now and see how it goes :) :p also thanks to iunlock and OWNORDISOWN to bring this issue on Youtube regarding the Alienware heating.

iunlock, I just ordered a Alienware 17 R4 1080 and am very concerned about the temps after reading your post. I was looking over your instructions for re-doing the thermal paste and its honestly a little over whelming for me. I doubt your in Arizona for me to be able to pay you to do it for me lol. But do you have any advice or suggestions for someone like myself who is just very worried they are going to mess something up?

I Also saw during OWNORDISOWN youtube interview that you said you offer a service to do this, but I didn't hear information on how to get that. I am interesting in this, what would I have to do?

    1.0.2 is best

Repaste = change thermal conductor compound on the CPU and GPU die

Repad = change thermal conductor pad on the power delivery circuitry and video RAM/vRAM

HS mod = change GTX1070 heatsink to a GTX1080 one (this is not finalized yet)

Fix = bend arm + several other things to provide better contact to the CPU/GPU silicon

That's the same question I had mobius thanks for that!
What's the bend several other things? Far as I could see on the guide it's only the arm?
    Cheers,

My support to the efforts to help others achieve thermal bliss; tutorial on how to disassemble and repaste the Alienware 15 R3 :)

Apologies for the poor audio, didn't have my mic and used the laptop mic on the AW15R3... not bad but not super great.

Thanks for sharing mate. I take it this is the 6700HQ / 1060 eh?

Also, would you be so kind to post up your temps? (HWiNFO64)

Run OCCT for at least 1 Hour and make sure that your power limits are unlocked so that it's not being capped running ~45w...

    Thanks!

    Correct, AW15R3; i6700/1060
    I will run tomorrow :)

I unfortunately have uneven core temps; just finished playing about 1.5 hrs of The Division and my CPU difference is 69-81C. Also, I feel as though the fans kick in a bit late as I have ran OCCT and initial temps reach 91C before fans blast. after about 20 minutes the highest read core is 82C.

I am going to replace the kyronaut with conductonaut in the new year!

Cheers buddy, can I just confirm you meant arms and not arm in your last message. I.e. All 3 arms need a bend but the top one needs slightly more?

Any other heat saving tips other than the above and to use conductonaught and fujipoly pads? I.e. Tips when doing the work itself?

Take your time... do not rush anything. Ideally, it should take ~1hr to complete. I recently posted a video if you want to follow along to for the 15R3. I tried to make it as easy and straightforward as possible.

He has a pretty good list of what you need next to both the 15 and 17 inch heatsink pictures. Conductonaut was not available on Amazon when I looked, but was easily found on Ebay. Read his post through a few times, and make your list.

No! Only if you re-paste with Liquid metal and tech discover it (if you send in your laptop to the depot for repair service)Clean and apply regular paste before service or repair.

Ok so moral of the story, make sure I'm happy with the rest of the laptop e.g.screen etc, before repasting with LM.

Isn't there a warranty sticker I need to worry about or anything?
