What about the quadro cards, do those accept 0.5mm pads?

Hey dude, I think I found a solution. This apparently is a big issue with laptops and you can find posts on all over the place (M4400, M4500, etc).

It has something to do with Nvidia's drivers. PowerMizer was a function that adaptively changed the clocks on our GPUs. If you pull up your DPC Latency program you will see that the core changes coincide with the spikes.

Our Quadro's aren't listed as using PowerMizer anymore, but there are a few apps that will add the registry entries to disable it. This is not a problem with ATI solutions.

PowerMizer Switch: Powermizer Switch.rar - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage

There is also a weird work-a-round by opening the Nvidia Control Panel and going to tab w/ the spinning logo (you can pause it). You will see your latency drop immediately.

PowerMizer Switch worked for me, I turned it to Off on AC / On w/ battery. I'm sitting at 150-250 us. Not sure if this is good enough for DAW workflow's, but you should probably have a dedicated machine for that w/ no internet/anti-virus and removed hardware you don't need.

I also turned on my core clock with EVGA Precision to keep an eye on it. It's staying at default clocks, and my temp./fan speed hasn't really changed at all.

Hi. Just a question about the CPU swap. I have a M4600 (i5 :() and plan on doing a CPU swap (i7-2720) late December/January (Earlier if I get the money/Find a cheap used one :D).

Other than the necessary tools and patience, what would I need? I'm assuming some sort of thermal paste. Is that all? Thanks!

I'm going to do a CPU swap as well.

I bought a 2720QM from Scott in the marketplace, and will work on it on the 28th.

Hopefully I won't break anything, but others have said that I might need some plastic prying tool and be careful of the cable. And yes, you do need a thermal paste.

    Great, post pics if possible!

I did notice the thread in the marketplace section when I was on here earlier where Scott was selling the 2720QM. I hate you ever so slightly for getting to it first.

    Good luck with it!

I have just made a cockup, I ordered my M6600 with a non-backlit keyboard thinking it was included. As my machine has been built and on it's way I had to call Dell and order one separately. It cost me 48 squids instead of 33. Bad news! I hope it is easy to fit:~

Hello. I've ordered Dell M6600 with fingerprint reader. Do you know which item number is a fingerprint reader on the above list ? And I have also ordered a 128GB SSD, but here it shows MCARD, PM810. Is it a regular SSD or mSATA ?

And what is ell Limited Hardware Warranty Plus Service ? What is the difference to Basic Hardware Service ?
