    Huh?

It has 2 drive bays and a mSATA-able mPCI-e slot, as well as a DVD drive which can be swapped with an opti-bay.

You must be getting the m4600 and m6600 mixed up. The m6600 is a 3 spindle+ chassis. 2 - 2.5" drives. Optical drive. mSata (the +) drive. You could in theory have 4 hard drives in an m6600.

The answer is probably no but I just ordered a 6600 off the outlet and I'm wondering if it's possible to somehow upgrade from non touchscreen to one that does have it at some sort of fee short of buying a brand new 6600.

Nope the Dell Sales guy was the one getting mixed up obviously.
OK I have looked at a youtube vid and I can see where the hdd layout is. What I would like to know is is the primary HDD the one in the center front? If this is the case then it looks like I can use the right side bay as a hot swap bay. I have a 3XS workstation that has a 2.5 sata drive and media card bay in the front panel. This allows me to plug in and out 2.5 sata drives at will. Would I be able to do this with the M6600 right hand bay as I understand if you take out the screws you can use it for hot swapping. I don't know where I read this but I am sure I saw it somewhere.

The M8900 unless you can get the 4000M. The AMD[ATI] is simply more powerful than the 3000M, BUT it does not offer the option of enabling Optimus...so your battery life will be less.

I would get about 3.5 hours of normal use out of the battery with the M8900 installed. The nVidia 3000m would give me just over 4.5 hours. The 4000M gives me just under 4 hours. Battery life can be enhanced by turning features and unused hardware off, but I just "use" the systems as-is. Of course, battery life is not a primary design focus in regards to these systems so if you are taxing the CPU/GPU with video or CAD encoding, battery life will be much less.

The default HDD placement is below - the primary HDD is on the side of the system. However, in the BIOS, you can specify the boot drive so the placement is moot. Therefore, you should be able to do what you want.

What is the build quality of a M6600 compared to a XPS 17 ?
I would expect to see much more metal used in the chassis..

    Hi Scott,

How hard is it to get to the CPU?...

Are there fragile components that I have to be careful of when I remove the keyboard fringe and the keyboard?
