I'm just wondering if it's difficult to buy the full HD screen for the E6510 off of ebay or somewhere else.

I did a few quick searches on ebay with not much luck. Do I have to buy only through Dell?

    I'll check the prices now.

Not really. You don't have to buy it through Dell, though they will have a warranty they will charge you through the nose. You are better off with an OEM reseller.

That sucks. I couldn't find anything on ebay for the 6510, perhaps could you suggest some places where I could look for the OEM screen?

Some Googling revealed this one: http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Dell/LATITUDE~E6510/

Anyone have experience with them? Is this the same screen Dell uses or is it a cheap knockoff? Is that price about right?

    Thank you.

Dell has many sources for screens, Samsung, LG, AUO are all OEM makers of these screens. Many 3rd parties buy them directly from the manufacturers and that is how they get cheaper screens but usually at the cost of customer service.

Is there a spec somewhere that I can use to find what screen my laptop uses?

    It's the 1080p WLED on a 2010 E6510.

Device Manager details may reveal some... details.

I didn't look much in the Device Manager but I did look in the registry at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY

and it says LGD0000, which I'm assuming means it's an LG.

My E6410 Mfg id under Device Manager states 'LGD0257'. My E6400 states 'SEC5442'. LG and Samsung LCDs. Other than that, one would have to tear things open and look for p/ns.

Other than that I had another ID: "ACI26A4" entered and upon googling I found out that it's the Asus VW266H external monitor I had once connected my laptop to. So I think it's safe to assume it's the LG.

The reason I'm asking all this is because I seem to have those "extremely shallow" but well defined scratches on my screen that show up when looking at it from certain angles in the sunlight for example. I attribute this to me being a bonehead about using tissues to clean my screen instead of a microfiber cloth. It's not a big problem, but my OCD got the best of me and I was looking at alternatives in case I do break the screen, which quite frankly is my pride and joy since I enjoy photos/photo-editing.

I recommend wiping the screen with a damp cloth with a hint of liquid detergent. That will shift both dirt and grease without having to press on the screen.

After cleaning the screen you can give the rest of the computer a wipe with the same cloth.
