Why not have Dell dispatch a technician to your home/work?

I'm considering it. It just seems a lot of hassle for a small issue, i was kinda hoping it was just a software issue...

If you don't want to call Dell, the next step might be to remove the custom hardware.

    Hey,

I know that I was given the greenlight to perform a clean install, but I haven't done it for two reasons -

    A. neck-deep in job applications (grad student)
    B. The driver selection process is confusing

As to B, there are many drivers that COULD apply to my system but I can't tell; the chipset drivers for my model and OS list 4 different ones, like the dual-core boost or the AMT

How do I figure out which one to take?

Also, I am still grappling with the Resume problem.

If the system Resumes from a power-mode induced hibernation, as opposed to a user-triggered hibernation, the system displays "Resuming Windows" then blacks out.

Uninstalling then installing the newest display drivers has not helped. Any other thoughts?

YourCaptain. For drivers it's easy... if it works.. its for your hardware.
Else the setup will tell you that you don't have it.

If you did not pick AMT/vPro with your laptop, you don't need it. As simple as that.

It helps to consider the possible drivers one at a time, understand their purpose, and then decide whether or not you need to download and install one.

The chipset drivers listed tend to include the main package that you need, plus auxiliary packages that you may or may not need or want. You need the main Intel package... it installs first after the OS. You need the Ricoh package... it enables the SD card reader (I think). And you probably do not want the two AMT packages, that must be installed after the DCP Security drivers which you also probably do not want... assuming you do not have vPro and will not be using Intel AMT technology. Or something like that.

Consider them one-by-one. Downloading them all and seeing which will install would be a bit careless.

Called out a DELL engineer. The Dell parts service gave him the wrong board, so after replacing the motherboard we discovered it was the wrong one. I await his return on monday with the correct one.

I just got a new 6510 from Dell outlet (nevermind 'new' lol)

Question: It came with the nvidia 3100m

So.... Re: glitches, more heat, performance, and probs

Should I yank it ? and run with the i5 Integrated Intel gfx ??

It (intel gfx) ran fine for me on my other 6510

Is the heat, small boost in performance, possible glitches with the 3100m

    worth it ?

    Thanks !!!!!

Intel HD graphics should be able to handle most tasks. Only if you do serious CAD work would you consider the Quadro graphics.
