I don't think there is much between them. Each burner has its favourite media.

The bare drive unit slots into the bay. The latching mechanism (i) holds it in place and (ii) provides a way to pull the burner unit out.

Ok...i'm a little dumb, so bear with me please. Are you saying the latching mechanism comes off somehow so one could use it on another burner that doesn't have it?

The latch is removable as shown on these two photos:

I have marked the two fixing screws (remove the outer screw and pull out the plastic latch in order to access the inner screw).

I would expect that the latch can then be fixed to another 9.5mm thick SATA optical drive (I haven't seen a bare drive to be 100% confident about this, but they are standard parts). It may also be necessary to swap the bezel.

Can someone comment on the video playback quality? This is not the first time I'm noticing it, but I just thought I'd ask others about it.

I'm watching Joe Kidd (HD) on Netflix right now, and the video isn't fluid. Some people may not notice the low framerate, but it's really annoying me.

Anyone else have similar problems in netflix streaming HD?

Has anyone swapped E6510's keyboard? Are the keyboards the same that are used in E6500/E6400 or even Precision series?

    Dell website didn't help much:rolleyes:

If you're in your 21 day return period and have already tried various driver updates, send it back. I had a similar experience. I sent an E-series back due to graphics and audio issues, as well as other hardware related quirks. If a PC notebook has issues straight out of the box, it's always best to return it.

I've not tried this on a 9.5mm thick drive but would expect that the basic arrangement is the same as on the 12.5mm drives, namely that the bezel is held on by several plastic hooks which can be unhooked with a little care.

We believe so. This was discussed further up this thread.

It's not difficult at all. I'm a little dumb & a klutz but had no problems at all. Just watch the video & be careful.
Oh, get that $17 keyboard off eBay...works like a champ!
