    Hi,

    I received my M3800 yesterday.

So far I'm VERY, VERY pleased with it.

I have used it for about 4 hours so far with no issues- EXCEPT about 20 minutes a go when the touch screen stop responding to touch. Everything else was still working fine. I hit Restart and it rebooted fine and the touch screen is working fine again.

Anyone else had this problem and if so, is there a fix? I really don't want to be boxing this thing and sending it back / swapping out parts myself. I need to start using it in earnest ASAP.

A bit more info: I just started using the default 8.1 Pro 64 bit installation- ie I haven't messed with any drivers, etc.

    Many thanks,

    Regards,
    Ian

There's a touchscreen firmware update on support.dell.com that addresses this issue (and also improves the responsiveness of the touchpad, for some reason). I've only seen one report of a user who continued to have this issue even after that update, so that should cure it for you. I'd also recommend perusing the XPS 15 Wiki, particularly the How-To and Common Complaints sections, since nearly all of the information there pertains to the M3800 as well: XPS 15 Wiki.

MANY thanks for the very fast reply and the info. I'll go and get the firmware update.

This minor issue aside, I am blown away by the machine- I totally love it :)

    Regards,
    Ian

UPDATE: Just downloaded the latest firmware for the QHD screen- went to install it and got the message that the latest Firmware is already installed.

So I guess it's just a case of keeping my eye on it and seeing if the problem reoccurs and (if so) taking it with Dell?

    Many thanks,
    Regards,
    Ian

The only other fix to this issue that was discovered before the firmware update is to disable device sleep on the touchscreen in Device Manager. Disconnect any USB devices, open Device Manager > Human interface devices. Double-click "USB Input Device" (there should only be one at this point), go to Power Management, and uncheck "Allow the system to put this device to sleep". It may cost you some battery life, but it seems to solve the issue.

Thanks once again for your reply.

o be honest I'm not sure if its related to Sleep- as (as a test) I just let the screen go to sleep- I was able to wake it with a flick of the touch pad and the touch screen was fine! The "lock-up" has only happened once so far and Ive been on the machine all day- and about 2 hours last night- so maybe just a random glitch?

I'll keep my eye on it and report back to the board as and when, to share what I find.

    Cheers,
    Ian

To clarify, "device sleep" is separate from system sleep or even blanking the display, and the touchscreen is entirely separate from the display itself as far as Windows is concerned. Device sleep just allows Windows to put certain devices to sleep when that specific device isn't used (even if the rest of the system is still awake). Prior to the firmware update, it looked like the touchscreen had trouble being woken back up from its sleep state when called upon. It seems at least a couple people are still having this issue post-update, unless this same behavior now has a different cause. Good luck!

I ran the updater again but this time it reported that no update was needed. Perhaps this screen is from a newer batch or something. Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Did they include screws with the samsung 840 evo msata? Where can I get them? Is it already in the m3800? (came with no msata)
