As fancy as that 5300 card looks, how many people actually have the routers that support that? I may be wrong, but I think *3* channels is outside of the N spec. I think the spec is just for 2 channels.

Would not be surprised if it sits idle with 1 channel until it sees a big transfer then tries to use all 3, router doesn't like it, drops the connection.

    Purely speculation though!

Does anyone know if a new business coupon released? I got one for home so I'm wondering if the business subscription just hasnt kicked in yet.

Does not look like it. Appears it is only the XPS, Inspiron, etc right now. Maybe next Thursday?

Well, I just transferred 34.3 GB over my N network from my E4200 to my ReadyNAS Duo storage unit. It was 275 files with one file being a 32GB TrueImage tlb. The entire transfer took an hour and twenty minutes. It was stable as heck though the speed varied from 150-300MB/s depending on the mood of my router. The transfer rate in Windows was about 7.35MB on average. I am quite pleased with the stability of this connection. No drops, no stutters. No issues at all.

One thing that I did find odd was that I had Internet access issues. My router is connected to a small bridge which itself is connected to another DSL router over 802.11g wireless. Normally, I have no problems connecting to the internet (I deal with 3 different subnets on my home network) but while this transfer was going on, I couldn't access the internet at all. I am going to chalk it up to routing issues and my retarded Belkin N1 Vision router rather than anything else. It looks real pretty but sucks as a network device. Oh well, at least it can hold my 802.11n connection!

Hey, thanks for the response -- it's much appreciated.

I'm actually wondering if there's something fishy going on with my system's motherboard. File transfers over the wired network seem really slow, too (all my PC's have gigabit cards, and I'm plugged into a gigabit switch). I should gather some numbers to get a better picture of what's going on here.

Is there some kind of app that logs file transfer speeds or would at least allow me to make a quick comparison between "a healthy laptop grabs a 4GB file in time x on wireless and time y on wired, your E4200 graps a 4GB file in time z on wireless and time a on wired"? I guess I can bust out the stopwatch and stare at Windows file transfer dialog boxes for awhile.

What types of speeds do you get on your E4200's wired connection?

If you run Vista try this:
1- Open Command Prompt as real Admin
2- Type this in: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable

    To undo:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Dell just released the onboard graphics update for the Cantiga chipset:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/A03_R212487.exe

I just upgraded, things don't seem different.

Edit: I don't know what's going on with NBR's post system but it ate a big reply I had made earlier. Anyway, I will try to summarize it again.

kalibar, try GB's advice above, I am not sure if it would help though. You had mentioned that this is your second E4200? Did your first unit also experience slowdowns? If you are used to your desktop, you will find that things are slower on GigE with laptops. At least, that's my experience anyway. I rarely use the onboard NIC so I have disabled it but I would be happy to run some tests for you. Do you have a benchmark in mind? Nothing beats transferring a file. Why don't you compare a 1GB transfer over your wired network simultaneously? Use Terminal Services to logon to either your laptop or desktop or better yet, just put the E4200 right next to your desktop and try it.

Jane, I just throw my E4200 in the sleeve and walk with it. Did yours come with the sleeve? I am not sure if they give those in the UK or not since most vendors seems to stuff Europeans at most things. For transcontinental travel I just carry the E4200 in my trusty Targus/Samsonite backpack that has housed everything from my 17" behemoth laptops to 9" netbooks. Otherwise, I like the booq stuff a lot though they tend to be pricey.

Can you check the front of your E4200 if the white strips (see attachment) are visible? It seems like mine was poorly assembled.
