Do the skins totally cover the computer top to change the appearance?

Ive been watching the dell outlet for a couple of weeks before I bought it. I was surprised to see one at $629 (prior to using a coupon) with specs in my sig. There was another one for $619 same specs but without bluetooth. Those two were the lowest priced E4200 at that time. It might have been a pricing error since there are plenty of units with this specs that are in the $800+ range. I used a 15% coupon which was still valid at that time

I guess my patience paid off as I was waiting and constantly refreshing dell outlet's inventory (I even installed an auto page refresher add-on to my firefox).

I was actually monitoring dell, lenovo and sony outlet stores for refurb ultraportables for about 3 weeks.

During these times I came across an X200 refurb (2.2Ghz 64GB SSD 2GB RAM BT 6-cell) for $814, and an Sony SZ Premium refurb (2.5Ghz) for $620, which I passed and regretted not buying until I scored on this fantastic E4200 machine.

The specs actually listed it as having 1GB of RAM (1 DIMM), but I was surprised when the unit came with 2GB of RAM (1 onboard, 1 on slot).

The brand of the extra RAM is ELPIDA (onboard is Samsung). For those who ordered with an extra RAM, is this what you have? I'm thinking that the previous owner may have put this into the laptop without taking it out, and Dell just didn't bother to remove it.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I do live in an apartment and there are anywhere from 10-14 neighboring WiFi networks visible on any given scan, but my network is on the least-cluttered channel. I'm running a Buffalo WiFi-G router flashed with Tomato, and the transmit power is ratcheted up to 70 mW (this solved the minor WiFi reliability issues we had when I first set the router up). I'm quite certain that wireless congestion isn't the issue in play here.

This setup has been going for about two years now, and has been used hassle-free for the last year or so with my 2007 ThinkPad's Intel 4965AGN WiFi card, and my fiancee's 2008 Penryn MacBook's AirPort AGN WiFi card.

Is there a list of routers somewhere that "don't agree" with the Intel 5300? That sucks pretty severely; I wonder if I'd be better-served by an Intel 5100 card. I certainly won't dispute with you that it makes sense to use the wired network for "mega transfers," but it's unreasonable for the card to be quitting altogether when I hit a Flash-heavy webpage or copy a 90MB MP3 album rip over the network. Even though my 3.8GB ISO is a "torture test," it's a fair expectation for the card to be able to complete it.

Sounds like a dead end so far. :(

I actually tried to order one of those SZ systems, they're about 4lbs though I ordered one and it got cancelled, from multiple orders for the same system i g uess.

I ended up getting a Vaio Z for about 1200, I am still on the fence about if I want to keep it. I got a 9cell battery which makes it took heavy I would really like tto try it with a 6cell as well. The real problem is I'm so used to my macbook pro that I'm not sure if I would adjust to the Vaio. there isnt enough driver support to run Leopard. So I guess if I can score a e4200 really cheap I can post-pone a Vaio purchase. I can't justify the 1200 and not being able to run OSX.

Yeah I guess we'll just have to wait for Sandy Bridge, which will focus on power efficiency...
